I'm so glad you could join me!

My name is a Jefferson Strouse. I was born, raised, and currently live in Los Angeles, California. Originally a freelance television producer for network competition reality shows, I picked up calligraphy in 2016 as a hobby to distract me in between gigs. Initially, I was only interested in improving my handwriting. I never intended to take calligraphy seriously, and for a time, I actively avoided learning calligraphy. However, over time, my curiosity got the better of me and opened myself up to the beauty that is calligraphy.

I started with Copperplate. I enjoyed it, but it didn't seem useful outside of birthday cards, and it didn't do much to improve my handwriting. That's when I turned to Spencerian. This was the script I was looking for. Like most Americans, I admired the beauty of the average person during America's golden age of cursive. I dived headfirst into learning Spencerian. Did I know that Spencerian is considered one of the hardest scripts to learn? Of course not! But that didn't stop me. I kept at it. Started from the fundamentals, and worked my way from there.

I've been told over the years that I should sell my works or teach calligraphy, but I brushed it off. "It's only a hobby!" It's now been nearly a decade of practicing calligraphy, and this "hobby" has blossomed into a passion. Now I want to share my passion with others. I hope you join me and learn all the benefits learning calligraphy has to offer.
